I want to be consistent on having weekly shows so I'm putting one out regardless of the slow week in MMA news.<br />
This week Ski and I talk about Bellator, Randy Couture's relationship with the UFC, "Showtime" Pettis' injury and we even make a mention of Lorenzo Lamas. Hope you enjoy, reply the the post or tweet me (@rolowankenobi) or Ski (@ski5163 with any suggestions for a show name.<br />

Since my last post as the Bloggin Guatemalan, this chapín went on to write for North Lake College's News Register where I covered Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball. There I became the sports editor and received a chance to cover the Dallas Mavericks and the PGA tournament the HP Byron Nelson. In my time with the Register, I won two Texas Intercollegiate Press Association awards for best sports feature and best sports news story. I also won a first place Texas Community College Journalism Association award for best sports news. <br />
In the Fall of 2012, I transferred to the University of North Texas to complete my bachelor's degree in journalism where I had planned on joining the North Texas Daily and continue my writing career there. Unfortunately, due to my conflicting schedule, I was only able to write two articles for the Daily before I had to step away. Since then I have been inactive in both wring for a news paper and for my blog. I still watch MMA religiously, and it saddens me that i have not been able to share my opinion with my 12 followers.<br />
Well today I make my return along with the help of my old friend Brent "Ski" Crawford, we have recorded a podcast talking about MMA, we will attempt to make this a weekly occurrence and hopefully I can back in the swing of thing as far as posting on my blog. Enjoy the first edition of the Rolo and Ski show (show title is subject to change and open for suggestions)<br />

I figured it out! Dana White set up Diaz to miss the pressers and his intention the whole time was to switch the opponents of the main and co main event and the reasoning is as follows:</span><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div></div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0in 0in 10pt 0.5in;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"></span>Diaz is a relative unknown to the common folk and will tune in to watch BJ walk through this guy and put him back on track. Right? Wrong! When Diaz puts on a boxing clinic and puts away Penn in convincing fashion, people will be shocked and Diaz will become a house hold name. I also sense another WWE moment during the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan (ie Chael Sonnen) Diaz will surely run his mouth and call out GSP and call him a lot of expletives and the audience in the house and around the world will be hooked for a GSP vs Diaz showdown. </span></div></div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0in 0in 10pt 0.5in;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">I know what you’re thinking. “Well what if Condit beats St Pierre?” That was the only reason why I hadn’t posted my conspiracy theory before. It had a big hole and I had no explanation for it. And then it happened.</span></div></div><div class="MsoListParagraph" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0in 0in 10pt 1in; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><span style="font-family: Symbol; mso-bidi-font-family: Symbol; mso-fareast-font-family: Symbol;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">·<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman";"> </span></span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Oct 18th</span></b> –Georges St Pierre pulls out UFC 137 (knee injury) <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Penn vs. Diaz named main event of UFC 137</span></div></div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-indent: 0.5in;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Wow! Are you serious?! This is really happening. Whatever happened to the "<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: x-small;">Nick Diaz can't handle the pressure of a major main event" quote? White is a very pridefull man and he would never let a fighter get away making a fool of him and reward them with a main event, title eliminator fight, he's cut fighters for less. </span>Of course if Penn wins it will squash any hope of that fight ever happening and it will become this generation’s Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva. Sure they fought eventually but it was late in both of their careers and did anyone really care? The stage is set ….to set up a super fight. Saturday night UFC 137 it’s going down. Last night at the 2011 Espy Awards, Manny Pacquiao won the award for Best Fighter. Yes that’s right, a boxer. Out of the four nominees, there was one fighter that stood out head and shoulders above the rest, Jon “Bones” Jones. Let’s break this down for a moment. Sure Pacman is more accomplished than the young 23 year old champion but this award isn’t called the Best Fighting Career, it’s called Fighter of the Year. According to ESPN.com, Manny Pacquiao was nominated for his unanimous decision win over, then 38yr old, Shane Mosley in May of 2011 and for his November unanimous decision title fight victory against Antonio Margarito. During that same time span, Johnny Bones fought 4 times and finished all 4 opponents by either TKO or submission. The last two were only 28 days apart which makes him that much more of a beast. The first of the two was versus promising prospect and previously undefeated Ryan Bader which Jones choked out in impressive fashion. His most recent fight was against UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua; Jones dismantled the champion. If an average person who does not know MMA would watch that fight they would think that it was a mismatch in Jones’ favor and that Rua had no business in the cage with someone of his caliber. To top it all off, in the process of dispatching Shogun, Jon Jones became the youngest champion in UFC history. The Espy’s are decided by fan voting but to think that more people voted for Pacquiao’s two snoozefest fights over Jones’ reign of terror is absurd and sickening. This just shows that people still aren’t well educated in the beautiful sport that is MMA and even though it is the fastest growing sport in the world, it still has a long way to go to truly become main steam. Jon Jones, you deserved that award.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06159581717887677194noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-953041430469708571.post-64664292806202288022011-06-08T08:03:00.000-07:002011-06-08T08:03:54.659-07:00Is Lebron Scared to Succeed?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdnNWo6x73wqydOiDJ2UaXMtDD9a-rwrFSc8hyphenhyphenZ3mNBdzOQyibNx0ptcrVYnP32PHC7po7XgsWY1bL8T3dfOUMo3H_DQJ0jDDLX7FBzzxzCXjZ8Ltn6hvZeqVU1TsjuExgBQpjUmSdHTNe/s1600/nba_g_ljamests7_576.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="225" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdnNWo6x73wqydOiDJ2UaXMtDD9a-rwrFSc8hyphenhyphenZ3mNBdzOQyibNx0ptcrVYnP32PHC7po7XgsWY1bL8T3dfOUMo3H_DQJ0jDDLX7FBzzxzCXjZ8Ltn6hvZeqVU1TsjuExgBQpjUmSdHTNe/s400/nba_g_ljamests7_576.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Time after time Lebron James has oustanding performances during the regular season and through the opening rounds of the playoffs. But time after time he fails to come up big when it counts. The Finals. How can someone who shows that his "talents" and his athleticism is head and shoulders above the rest of the competition come up so small down the final stretch. This year in the Finals James only has 9 4th qtr points, Dirk has 44! Who can forget the 2005 NBA Finals when he was merely a spectator when the Spurs swept his Cavaliers. Lebron had 8 points in game 4 of the 2011 NBA Finals, the lowest in the playoffs in his career...Michael Jordan's lowest scoring playoff game was 22. Which brings up the question, are the expectations the world has for King James too high, unfair even? Is this who he is, a ridiculously talented athlete with no killer instict? The answer is not clear yet, only time will tell us. What is clear is that we have a great series on our hands and recommend we just sit back and enjoy it.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06159581717887677194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-953041430469708571.post-42717043759641243482011-04-30T06:08:00.000-07:002011-04-30T06:08:45.051-07:00The Bloggin Guaty wants to hear from you<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjceTITR8GxTLWuRl7v8HbbJc0UjmhFHEM4UVnyMOyz8ex89_mrGrrpQrZpB8UFYX8pKsUeBIrRmbyKqqwlz26nLLHBNQJtNVIg5_09_CUaHbBSeD-syu6qfuuRKt83X0YKRu-aSKnjjUyh/s1600/GeorgesStPierreUFC94Pre_2148.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjceTITR8GxTLWuRl7v8HbbJc0UjmhFHEM4UVnyMOyz8ex89_mrGrrpQrZpB8UFYX8pKsUeBIrRmbyKqqwlz26nLLHBNQJtNVIg5_09_CUaHbBSeD-syu6qfuuRKt83X0YKRu-aSKnjjUyh/s400/GeorgesStPierreUFC94Pre_2148.jpeg" /></a></div><br />
Usually by now I would have already posted my thoughts and predictions for the upcoming fights at UFC 129, however, I will not be doing that this time. Due to the fact that I take pride in only posting fair and unbiased opinions on here, I am afraid that I cannot be unbiased when it comes to my boy GSP. So what I want to hear from everyone what they think tonight's fights will bring, upsets, business as usual? Let me hear your predictions.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06159581717887677194noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-953041430469708571.post-35291951170220326282011-04-08T23:27:00.000-07:002011-04-08T23:27:01.855-07:00Bueno Diaz<div style="text-align: center;">On Saturday April 9th, Nick Diaz will defend his Strikeforce Welterweight title vs Paul "Semtex" Daley in what is set up to be an interesting match-up . Semtex is a knock out artist with very heavy hands but I feel that Diaz is too crafty and patient for him. Diaz will be more than willing to sit back and dodge all the haymakers that Daley has to throw at him in an attempt to land the knockout blow. Even if he lands one or two, Diaz has proved again and again that he has a solid chin. Diaz is a beast!He can pick Daley appart with his pin point accuracy and superior boxing skills or finish him on the ground with his high level jiu-jitsu. Paul Daley is a good fighter but Nick Diaz, love him or hate him, is a true martial artist.<br />

<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Officially, Nick Diaz will be stepping into the cage carrying a nine fight winning streak, however, his last loss came in late 07 vs KJ Noons.In that fight he lost due to a cut he suffered and the ringside doctor stopped the contest. Few years later they had a rematch and Diaz went on to beat KJ in a 5 round decision. Earlier that same year, his record shows a no contest vs Takanori Gomi, he actually destroyed Gomi but the athletic commission later changed it to a no contest due to a failed drug test(weed not P.E.D's)What I'm getting to is that his last true loss came in 2006 at the hands of Sean Sherk, that's a pretty good run if i say so myself. If he goes on to beat "Semtex" on April 9th he should be considered the No. 2 Welterweight in the world and should challenge GSP for the UFC title. Diaz is the only welterweight out there that poses a threat to GSP's reign of terror over the division. At UFC 126 Anderson Silva is scheduled to defend his title once again versus Vitor Belfort. The fight has been talked up more than any non Brock fight in recent memory but what i cant understand is how the media brainwashed everyone into thinking that Vitor is going to put up a good fight. Can someone please remind me who he has beat that should make me think he's dangerous.Lets see...his last fight (which was over 1yr ago) he beat Rich Franklin by TKO, that would be impressive if Anderson hadn't already made Franklin his girlfriend....twice. Before that he almost killed a 40 year old Matt Lindland, before that he knocked out Terry Martin who's glass jaw is only second to Glass Joe. Vitor has not beat a legit middle weight, or a legit light heavy for that matter. When they guy's highlights on the promo leading up to the fight consist of him still wearing shoes in the octagon, you know he hasn't done anything in a long time. Everyone has a chance and he may very well win tonight but there has not been any evidence of him putting up a good fight.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06159581717887677194noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-953041430469708571.post-80402316027438456112010-09-30T22:10:00.000-07:002010-09-30T22:27:36.410-07:00How do you kill a Zombie? Go for the head<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRirPURqhsuyAGD1IjJgkg9Z3GihxU6OOClz8sZErC_Ye0ZR7ZZvUBQZLv45MIaC-zIvuBzvwxdufpupbFs0KKmBmoTag073tiDw1PJNQVxEv4kkeZtPP8W5c0mvGCuU28La1IPViuuNKp/s1600/zombie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRirPURqhsuyAGD1IjJgkg9Z3GihxU6OOClz8sZErC_Ye0ZR7ZZvUBQZLv45MIaC-zIvuBzvwxdufpupbFs0KKmBmoTag073tiDw1PJNQVxEv4kkeZtPP8W5c0mvGCuU28La1IPViuuNKp/s320/zombie.jpg" width="320" /></a>At WEC 51: Aldo vs Gamburyan, without a doubt the knock out of the night was George Roop's destruction of "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung at the 1:30 mark of the 2nd round. The first round was a bit slow with Roop keeping Jung at bay with his long reach and landing some hard straight jabs. Staying true to his nickname, The Korean Zombie just kept coming straight forward flat footed determined to eat Roop's brain. Only throwing a few haymakers and rarely landing, Jung had no response for the 6'1 featherweight's one-two, leg kick combo. In the 2nd frame Jung picked it up a bit by charging forward and trying to get into a fire fight. While bobbing, weaving, and swinging back, Roop used an old zombie killing technique he learned by watching the 1968 classic, Night of the Living Dead. Head shot. Following a crisp punching combo came a text book switch kick that landed perfectly on The Zombie's chin putting him to sleep and giving George Roop the 11th win of his career.<br />

<b>TORRES' RETURN</b><br />
<br />
After having a 17 fight win streak and having a reign of terror as the WEC Bantamweight Champion, Miguel Angel Torres had lost 2 fights in a row and it seem as if he was out the door and could not compete in this fast paced weight class anymore. Torres proved all the naysayer wrong, he switched camps and moved up north to Montreal to train under Firas Zahabi at the Tristar Gym along side #1 pound for pound fighter in the world Georges St Pierre. Tonight Miguel came out looking like the old champion we grew to love, overwhelming Charlie Valencia on his feat and on the ground as he submitted him Valencia via rear naked choke near the half way point of the 2nd round.<br />

<b>COWBOY'S REDEMPTION</b><br />
<br />
The bad blood between Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone and Jamie Varner continued Thursday night as their long anticipated rematch took place. Back in January of '09 Varner earned a controversial decision over Cerrone and the smack talking hasn't stopped since. Cerrone completely dominated the fight by starting off aggressive and opening up the fight with a charge of punches followed by a flying knee. After rocking Varner with a sneaky left, Cowboy surprised every one by taking down the highly decorated wrestler with relative ease. Cerrone continued the fast pace throughout the fight, however, it seemed like Jamie Varner had lost the fight before he even stepped in the cage. At the prefight stare down, Varner would not look up at his opponent. As the fight unfolded it became clear that Varner wasnt fighting to win. It appeared as if Varner's goal was to not get finished. He would throw hard punches when Cowboy would start charging him, he would scramble back up when he got taken down but he never made moves to gain an advantage. Needless to say all 3 judges scored the bout 30-27 for Donald Cerrone.<br />

<b>AND STILL CHAMPION</b><br />
<br />
There were no surprises in the evening's main event when Bantamweight Champion Jose Aldo put his title on the line against Manny Gamburyan. Aldo came out looking like Paco (the muay thai guy) from blood sport with his hand high and bouncing his left leg. Manny came out landing a left hook knocking the champ off balance, Aldo recovered quickly. Both fighters were feeling their opponents out as they were tentative to let their hands go, Aldo landed some hard leg kicks but no big action in the first stanza. The 2nd round was a different story<b> </b>both fighters picking up the pace, Manny went for a take-down but was not successful as Aldo slipped out. Aldo then landed a solid right hand that buckled Gamburyan, seeing that his opponent was hurt, Aldo landed a vicious uppercut that dropped Manny and the insuing barrage of punches was just the icing on the cake. Aldo retains his title and improves his record to 18-1.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06159581717887677194noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-953041430469708571.post-48246827565975048102010-09-19T21:37:00.000-07:002010-09-19T21:37:24.654-07:00Over rated............AGAIN!!Since 2007, the Cowboys have been ranked in the top 10 in the NFL preseason rankings and they have finished 13-3, 9-7, and 11-5, respectively, and in those 3 years they have won only 1 playoff game. The Dallas Cowboys have had the most talent on their roster through those years but it seems like they are too busy reading their newspaper clippings and not enough time working on their offense. From Wade Phillips' soft coaching approach to Jason "Red Jesus" Garrett's horrible play calling, it seems like they cant get it together. This year they were ranked as high as #4 and they have started the year 0-2. Since 1978 only 26teams that started the season 0-2 made the playoffs. Only 3 went on to win the Superbowl. The good news is that one of those teams was the 1993 Dallas Cowboys, however this aint your daddy's cowboys. What we know so far is that so far the Texans, Bears, Panthers, Raiders, Seahawks, Chiefs, Buccaneers, Browns, Bills, Lions, and even the god awful Rams have more offensive points than the Cowboys do. So although there still is a slim chance of them making playoffs and making it to the big game, keep in mind that no team has ever hosted the Superbowl in their home stadium.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06159581717887677194noreply@blogger.com1
